Qualifiers and Confederations...2009

Postby utah_heretic » Fri Dec 05, 2008 12:37 pm

Dates are set for the WC qualifiers, where do you think they will play each game?

Which one should RSL be lobbying for?
Clearly the 2/11 game against Mexico will be at Columbus (which reminds me I need to get plane tickets)
My bet is that Salt Lake will land the June 6th game against Costa Rica. I say this mostly because, US Soccer has traditionally been somewhat superstitious about the placement of qualifiers. Clearly they like to play Mexico in Columbus because of the home crowd they are likely to get, but more than that, they like to play there because they tend to win there. After the 3-0 scoreline against Costa Rica at RES, I wager that they will consider the venue "lucky"

Would be cool to get any one of the matches here.

Im really feeling that we will end up with the Mexico match. If for no other reason then the rest of the world thinks we dont have any mexicans here. lol. Im a little afraid of how much alcohol will be consumed if we do end up with this match though. lol. Tequila kills me but it sure warms me up too.

US soccer has announced that the Mexico game will be in Columbus.
One of the benefits of hanging around a group of soccer supporters is that your taste in beer goes up a lot. It’s like “Sideways” with more swearing. But we digress.

Good for Columbus, my god they whined and bitched enough when US Soccer considered other cities.

When the fans in Columbus started posting online that if the match wasn't there that they would cheer for Mexico, tells you a lot about the batch of fans that now support the Crew. Too bad that a good team has to be supported by such idiots.

I actually think we will get the Sept 6th match against El Salvador, a bit of a belated birthday gift for those of us with birthdays on the 3rd.
The RCB is moving to sections 8 & 9 at the new stadium, do you have your 2009 season tickets?

Well, I'd be lying if I said I wasn't a little disappointed...what worries me a little, is the idea that US Soccer is starting to "auction these games...I guess it was inevitable, but we haven't really seen it before. I'm happy to go to Columbus for this game, after all, there is a certain tradition in this, but I think we could have done an amazing job with this game...perhaps one day.

I think you will see cities battle for these matches, but the sad part is that you never know what level of support will show up.

Who would have imagined that Colorado would barely break 7,500 for a World Cup qualifiying match? Columbus has done a great job in supporting the US, but to think that they are entitled to every US vs. Mexico match is just stupid. This match deserves a big city and a big crowd (yes even a big group of Mexico supporters), this is the premier match up in CONCACAF and letting just 20,000 see it live vs. having it in Seattle or another major city that could easily sell 50=60,000 tickets is very shortsighted.

I would have pulled all US matches from Columbus as soon as the fans there started saying they would cheer for Mexico if the match was moved, that type of BS shows that they are not really supporting the USMNT, they just want to be catered to. Fair weather fans, if you can even really consider them fans.

I think we would have had a packed stadium with a 85% supporting the US and it would have been a great match, but the concerns about the weather had to be considered. I really am hoping for the El Salvador match in Sept.

Cowlumbus sucks.

That said, I still don't really like the USMNT. I never liked Alexi Lalas and Eric Whine-all-day. I especially don't like Landycakes and Pablow. I do like the Czech team, so if the US plays the Czechs again, I will cheer for the Czechs yet again.
