Riot Stadium Song

Postby JUDGE DREDD » Tue Nov 18, 2008 8:05 pm

I know this is a topic we have discussed many times before in the past.

From time to time I drop in on BigSoccer and see what else is going on in RSL land.
They are discussing trying to get a Stadium Song going for RSL.

Both RSL & MLS have tried to stick us with a song and neither took off.

In my travels to England and Austria I have been lucky enough to experience first hand an entire stadium singing one song in unison. There is not much else in sports that can even come close to this.
Now most of these songs that are attached to the clubs have been well embedded into society and have been passed down from one generation to the other. For example "I'm Forever Blowing Bubbles" came out in 1918, and was introduced to West Ham by a former manager in the late 1920's.

The key I see is to take a established song that is fairly simple to sing and memorize and run with it.

I still dig Salt City Bandits' "Salt Lake Pride"

Sinatra, My Way.

Pennywise cover of, Stand by Me.

There are plenty songs out there that would work..it's just a matter of getting enough voices behind it.

Few things that would help something like this.

All RSL supporter groups are allowed access to the Riot during the off-season a few times to practice working together on songs and chants. This would also allow us to try out a few songs and see which might work well for the entire supporter culture, which would then transfer over to the rest of the stadium.

As for the RCB:
We need more voices behind songs! We sound so good on a few of our main songs, but then there are a few where it seems like 2-3 of us are carrying the entire group. This I know will change with practice, but we must practice to get better.

I gotta vote again for Salt City Pride. It's a fairly simple song, easy to learn, and it's specific to SLC.

It's been a bit since I've been around here. As far as a stadium song, Salt City Pride would kick ass.

On the other topic about getting everybody singing and in unison, the conference final was way different than the other game I've been to at Rio Tinto. The section was so full and had so much disorganized noise that it was difficult to hear what songs were getting started, especially since I was standing along the aisle near the FCB section and it seems most songs were starting out on the other end of the section.

Is there any chance that we could get a capo down in front of the section to help start songs? Or maybe spread out some of the more vocal supporters to different areas of the section like the back and both sides?

Just a couple thoughts from a dude stuck in his own private Idaho who only gets to about 3 or 4 games a year.

I think we should make up a Yellow Card for at least the first game with Salt City Pride (among other songs) in it. Part of the problem with the Yellow Card at RES was that we passed them out to people who may or may not have wanted to participate, because there was no real way to tell. Now that we have all the supporters concentrated in one area, it'd be a lot easier to effectively pass out flyers.

I agree with Lurpy on that.

Also think it would be cool of the FO would let all us supporters get together at the Riot and practice getting all the supporters on one page on a few of the chants/songs.
Maybe try out a capo down in front...or some other way to indicate what songs/chants to do during the match.

The FO could also gear this towards, come out and meet the supporter groups..Allow people to come out and check out the groups..which would help grow the groups and may result in more season tickets being sold in the south end.
