Superliga

Postby rslfutbolfan » Thu Jul 31, 2008 10:37 am

Well, as the ball bounces...it turns out there are two US teams going to the Superliga finals. Is this a major turning point in US Soccer? Does this say that we are improving? That Mexico soccer is in a state of collapse? What do you think? And who are you rooting for? Houston or the Revs? I say GO REVS!!!

:D

To me all it says is that the US needs to get in line with the rest of the world and not play during the summer. Since there's hardware on the line, New England is going to choke it way somehow.

Donk, your kidding right. You really don't want MLS playing in December and January do you? The middle of pointyball, the -15 degrees days in Chicago, Toronto, New England, New York, and 5 foot of snow in Salt Lake, Columbus, Denver.
Do you want a split season like some teams in Northern Europe, but we play a very similar schedule to Norway, Sweeden, or we could play a much shorter season like Iceland

I think superliga is a joke, so now that a MLS team will win the tournament, that majority of the million dollar prize will go to the league and SUM, and the players will only get 15% of the payout. this sucks for the players, since the Mexican teams give the whole amount to the players.

I also think it sucks that all the matches were on telefutura.

I want the split season. Works well for the Czechs, who have a league of 16, which is about what I think MLS should be. Superliga is just a way that the leagues can cash in on the fact that Mexicans in the US only show up to matches involving Mexican teams and don't care about MLS.

The most telling thing for me is to see how many Mexicans showed up to the Santos match wearing either Club America or Guadalajara gear. You think those people would ever cheer for Santos in a Mexican league game?
