Specialist Turner was one of my roommates at basic training. He died of wounds received during a roadside bomb attack in Afghanistan. The news of his death puts a real damper on this holiday and brings home exactly what July 4th is all about. SPC Turner was a bright, energetic man and it is a tragedy and shame that he is no longer with us.

I feel for you Donk, I know too many really good people who have lost their lives in service to the nation. It is never easy as you know, I only take comfort in knowing that everyone choses to put their life in danger in service of a greater need.

No matter your politics, those who serve this nation are heros who daily face things most people will never understand, or be able to comprehend the bonds that form between the men and women who make that choice to serve.
