This was discussed a little at the last tailgate.

Who do you think is going to win.

I'm going with Germany.

I would agree that Germany has to be the favorite going in, Spain has a great team (just watch them destroy the US tomorrow), but they tend to underperform in big competitions. If the world's best player shows up Portugal could be a darkhorse to win it as well.

Just waiting on my new Germany Jersey to come in, I hope it shows up by Saturday.

Czech Republic I think are in trouble without Rosicky. I still think they'll at least make the semi-finals.

Just remember, last fall, Germany finished 2nd in their qualifying group after losing 3-0 to the Czechs in Germany.

Bookies take a hammering as Spain win Euro 2008
Jul 1 2008

BOOKIES took a hammering after Fernando Torres clinched the Euro 2008 championship for Spain, it emerged yesterday.

They paid out £25million after £20million was bet on Sunday's final against Germany.

Liverpool fans were the biggest winners, with Anfield striker Torres's goal costing Ladbrokes £250,000 on special bets. With no home nations involved, "scorecast" odds were offered on Premiership players to keep punters interested.

But the bookies' plans backfired as Britain-based stars including Michael Ballack, Dirk Kuyt and Torres all scored opening goals.

Ladbrokes, who were offering 18-1 on Torres to score the only goal of the game for Spain, described the result as "a disaster" and claimed "millions and millions" were paid out.

William Hill had to pay £315,000 to an English businessman who backed the Spaniards with a £55,000 bet.

Labrokes' biggest single payout was £120,000 to a punter who put £30,000 on Spain to win, while one Germany backer got nothing for his £70,000 bet.
