Define what exactly is FILTHY rich please. It is like in academia and plagiarism, what other property does someone in that sort of profession have but their intellectual property. Who decides when they are rich enough and no longer entitled to become richer? If the government, especially via the courts, does not allow someone to become as rich as they want, they stifle innovation and it really is that simple. Why should I seek to exceed and be rewarded if it all comes to naught because someone is legally allowed to steal from me? Theft of $.01 from someone who has millions is still theft and should be viewed the same as if the victim only had $.01. Why is it ok to steal from someone who's rich, but not someone who's poor? Should we not view that as an equal crime? If I download an album and like it, I am much more likely to go buy it. For myself and many like me there is no substitute for having a hard copy of music or movie..etc...However, when artists put one or two songs on an album that are worth buying but the rest is just fluff..why spend the money on fluff?
And that's exactly how some artists choose to market their music. It really should be the artist's decision on how to market that music since they are the ones who produced it. Some do business this way, others choose not to, neither way really is the wrong answer in my opinion. Those who do business in a way that more people like will make the most money. Microeconomics really isn't that complicated. They should have embraced the mp3/download world and been one of the leaders on getting their tunes out to the masses via Napster and other download sites back in the day. Instead just like the entire music industry they fought the future and are losing the war.
Again, it's their only real property, so they should have the right to decide. While I agree it would have probably been in their favor to embrace it as the wave of the future, they do STILL have a very valid point that they should get paid for their work. The fact was that while SOME people did go and buy the album after downloading a song, the majority did not.
Correct me if I'm wrong denz, but didn't you steal the rcb?
Metallica sux ass since master of puppets so who cares anyway?
