Meeting with the FO

Postby RSLlady » Wed Sep 02, 2009 3:08 pm

Hey all. The FO is going to be meeting with supporter groups next Tues. If you will all list your concerns and even compliments (if there are any), we can present them then! Any ideas to solve the problems you have would be appreciated as well! Let me know by Monday 9/7.
Thanks a ton!

I plan to go, but will be pushing it to get there right at 5.
Another BRILLIANT move by the FO; scheduling a meeting on a weekday at 5PM!!

Sparky, Lurpy, Gaffer....You lads coming?

If you can't make it..Please post concerns, questions, complaint on here and I will do my best to voice them and get answers. .

We would like to invite all members of the supporters clubs to visit with us to discuss the 2010 season, changes you would like to see, and issues that you would like to discuss. We know that there will be some bitching but we would like to be productive, so if you can come with suggestions/solutions that we can bring back, we want to make progress in creating a better environment for next season. We would like to meet with everyone next Tuesday, September 8th at 5 pm here in the club. Please pass this along to everyone involved with your groups as we would like feedback/questions from everyone.

Thanks,

Brent Stevens

I can make this. Let me know about anything that needs to be discussed
One of the benefits of hanging around a group of soccer supporters is that your taste in beer goes up a lot. It’s like “Sideways” with more swearing. But we digress.

Not sure if I will be able to get out to this meeting. By the time I get home and take care of things around here then do battle with traffic I am not sure I will be out there until after 6. I will call Lurpy or Gaffer and see if the meeting is still going and if it is worth while to drive out by the time I can.

I think it went fairly well, but I tend to be an optomistic person! We will be getting storage and the stadium beginning on Saturday, with access for pre-match set up. Seats are possibly moving in toward section 10, to where we will not be bothered by the damn pole. They say next season the first 4 rows will remain in place the entire season, so hopefully no displacement. They are going to get us a seating chart to check out. Also, we might be getting our own "JC", for support like La Barra has. There were other odds and ends discussed, we were there for 2.5 hours! But, these are the basic things we kept circling around.

Some other things discussed were:

RSL is working to communate better and is looking into weekly meetings with the SGs

RSL did a survey of why there fans come to games the #2 reason was the atmosphere #1 was to see soccer

They are looking at having 5 ticket exchange dates next year.

Swearing. Barra Real has been told that they need to tone down the swearing in spanish. RSL would like it if we toned down our swearing, which is something I think is possible.

I don't see weekly meetings happening, monthly would probably suffice.

Hmmm..#2 reason is the atmosphere. Well I really hope that woke up the FO.

Tone down our swearing?...BLASPHEMY!! I know...this is one we have talked about every season.
There is a direct correlation between the amount of swearing coming out of our group to the way we are treated. For instance..we have a DAMN POLE in front of us, or our section is MIA...well sure every other word will be a very "choice" word and in the span of 90 minutes we might even be able to chase off even the most hardened sailor. There is always going to be swearing in supporter groups, and more so in The RCB; that is one of the main reasons we are not over drinking Kool Aid with the Loyalists and singing about Yellow Submarines or how high they want the goal.
I think it is something that can and probably should be addressed for next season. But in no way are we modifying chants, songs, etc. Maybe the "We all fucked your grandma!" chant could be busted out only on "special" occasions instead of at each match?...

So what will happen to the people to our left if we get moved over more so the Damn Pole and the disappearing section is not an issue? Did they know how many concerts/events they will be hosting next season; or when will they know?

What is a "JC"?

JC is the guy in the front office who deals with the Barra Real.

I think the toning done of swearing could happen by adding more chants without swear words. Changing chants is a stupid idea. Also I like the yellow submarine chant. speaking of the loyalists there was a women of theres how was complaining about everything and was demanding action for a ton of stuff to happen now. it was kind of offensive to me as a supporter. I get more out of my season tickets then most people do that pay more because I am a supporter. I think we need to realize that we get extra stuff because we give more to the team then most fans.

The idea with moving is that instead of the rcb being centered on the east side of section 9 it would be center on the west side. we would also be less wide and more vertical in the section. The loyalists would do the same in their section. it looks like the fcb is going away next season. I think this seat moving idea is good if the Front office handles in well.

Here's a really stupid question: if the FCB is gone next year, why not just move the RCB to Section 10 and the damn pole is irrelevant? Or is that too close to the Loyalists and our swearing might warp their ears?

Speaking of the swearing; if the FO tries to eliminate or oversee it, driving 5 hours each way to the few games I get to a year becomes less and less worth it. I don't want to worry about offending people or having the Sandy PD on my ass for saying "fuck." There's a reason why I joined the RCB and it was so that I didn't have to deal with shit like that. Are there good songs we can sing with out the swearing? Yes. Are there a lot more good songs out there for us to sing with swearing? Absolutely. For those of you at the USA game last weekend, a lot of the songs sung had the word "fuck" in it. The Tim Howard song had it, of course the USA ain't nothing to fuck with had it, and the We Are the US call and response had it. It is what it is.

Going vertical might be good in order to get songs going. I know that I have had trouble hearing songs getting started from the far end of Section 9 when I'm standing along the aisle between Sections 9 and 10.

And if we're getting our own JC can we sing "Victory in Jesus"?

I thought it was interesting that the Loyalist lady was willing to come together as a united supporters group, but I now question her motives. I received an email yesterday from the Loyalist's announcing their tailgate has moved to the old Ardell Brown Parking Lot. My guess is that they want to drum up new members from the walk up crowds. Something they did from the grassy knoll at RES.

Concerning the chants: I'm not about censorship but we could stand to lose the grandmother chant, however catchy it is. I find my wife mumbling it a few days after each game. Kinda creeps me out.

It will be interesting to see the seating chart they provide.

Chealsy and I had a follow up meeting with the Brent and Davy. Thing we discussed included:

They are working on giving us our own locker at the stadium that would be locked with only a few people having keys to it

If we want we could have some one on the cement in front of the section to lead chants. they would have to be trust worthy and agree to not do anything dump like rush the field or the like. The Facilitates people at RSL have been really nervous about even having Section 26 run the flags.

We need to develop a new describtion of what the RCB is for the front office. I well be making a new thread on that.

RSL players are scared that no RSL fans are going to show up to the Chivas SR. match. Please Consider Coming to support your team if we don't fill the stadium it lessens the chance of us getting Barca next summer which is the stated goal of the FO.

For the next yellowcard we can tape them to seats in the south end and drop off some at the team store. (another thought: could we drop some off at the Republican?)

RSL is willing to use their social media, blogs and websites to promote us. It would be nice if we updated our website.

There is a good chance that the Front Office is going to have $5 dollar tickets to the NYRB match to help us grow.

I mentioned pregame at the Republican and it well hopefully be on the team blog.
