What a crazy year. Astonishingly we end the season with some hope for our team (managing not to finish behind Toronto, a new coach, beating the Crapids) and still reasons for concern (how Pastorino got treated, the current coach, Checketts' public statements and apparent unwillingness to splash the cash to bring in the talent we need).
The RCB had some nice airtime and got some media notice....good job for that guys. The RCB is in many ways a cooler organisation than we would have ever thought when we started it in season 1. I have to chuckle inwardly a tiny bit that there is no more Loyalist group to speak of, and am pleased to see groups apparently springing up on myspace and elsewhere that want to throw passionate support behind RSL.
For reasons that are almost entirely professional (because of my involvement with soccer projects in the U.S. that may be seen as in conflict with a supporter's club membership), and only slightly personal, I can't renew my membership (it is either that or join one for EVERY team, and I can't bring myself to do that!). I hope to see many of you that I know well in the future on some of my frequent trips to SLC, others that I still have to meet I hope to meet and hang with as occaission warrants. Many of you have my email and phone # and any of you can get it from Reed (or others that have the info) if you want to phone, text or email me. Remember, my house is open for travellers to Bridgeview, Soldier Field, Lambeau, Camp Randall and all points in between.
With a ton of respect, I would like to request that the two paragraphs that I wrote for the original RCB website under "Who Are We?" be rewritten (I don't even know who does the website anymore). The current version doesn't make much sense anyway (there is no sign up section on the new web site, for example). There is no real rush, but before next season would be really nice.
Cheers to the Magic Water Boys! Three seasons and still standing!
P.S. I also dropped off of the RCB BPL fantasy league so now some of you actually have a chance to win it!
P.P.S. Someone in the RCB leadership is probably totally on this, but someone should be sure to check in with Robb Enger regarding whether the RCB has to file end-of-year paperwork. He gets crazy busy after new year's day.
