Bring Me The Head Of Ron Mexico!!

Postby JUDGE DREDD » Wed Jul 25, 2007 7:26 am

The outrage is unprecedented, and for good reason: Two days after a federal grand jury indicted NFL star quarterback Michael Vick and three cohorts on felony dogfighting charges, more than 100,000 people have called on the NFL to suspend Vick immediately.

In a case that The Humane Society of the United States has assisted with since the alleged cruelties came to light in Virginia last April, the 19-page indictment describes abuses that are almost beyond belief:

In or about March of 2003, PEACE [one of Vick’s co-defendants], after consulting with VICK about the losing female pit bull's condition, executed the losing dog by wetting the dog down with water and electrocuting the animal.

In or about April 2007, PEACE, PHILLIPS, and VICK executed approximately 8 dogs that did not perform well in "testing" sessions...by various methods, including hanging, drowning, and slamming at least one dog's body to the ground."

The NFL expressed “disappointment” and said Tuesday that “we believe that all concerned should allow the legal process to determine the facts.”

Well, that’s just not good enough. These alleged acts were not petty or harmless; they were nothing short of gruesome and barbaric. And there is precedent for a suspension: Other NFL players, such as Pacman Jones and Chris Henry, have been suspended while they awaited trial and before they were convicted.

Take action and send off an e-mail to the NFL commissioner....

Vick is so screwed. His cousin didn't build the kennels or put in the dog treadmill, he didn't have the money to do that sort of stuff. I still can't believe that Vick in any way thought that this was ok. I can't believe that a guy who makes millions would even risk that for a stupid reason like dog fighting.

The difference between Vick and Jones though and the reason why Jones is not getting the same consideration as Vick is that he has such a history of misconduct, where Vick has never had a problem (the weed smell in his water bottle thing was crap, so not a big deal there). He's never been arrested, never been a problem. Not to mention, he puts a lot of in the seats. People don't go to watch Pacman Jones play but they do go to watch Michael Vick.

But just looking at was was presented at the indictment, he's got some serious problems.

This is a big victory, one that simply would not have happened without your action and those of more than 165,000 others.

As you know, the allegations against Michael Vick are so serious and disturbing that The Humane Society of the United called on his corporate backers to end their commercial relationships with the star player. I’m so pleased that Nike has signaled it has a zero tolerance policy for athletes who may be involved with staged animal fights and other forms of malicious animal cruelty.

Nike's statement reads as follows:

“Nike has suspended Michael Vick’s contract without pay, and will not sell any more Michael Vick product at Nike owned retail at this time. As we’ve said before, Nike is concerned by the serious and highly disturbing allegations made against Michael Vick and we consider any cruelty to animals inhumane and abhorrent. However, we do believe that Michael Vick should be afforded the same due process as any citizen in the United States, therefore, we have not terminated our relationship.”

Also today, Reebok agreed to stop selling Michael Vick-branded products. The company does not have a contract with Vick but has an official relationship with the NFL to sell its merchandise.

Thank you again for all you do for animals.

Sincerely,

Wayne Pacelle
President & CEO
The Humane Society of the United States
